Company History
Roy V. Germain was an electrician by trade, in which he worked for
approximately five to six years. In 1953, he formed Roy V. Germain
Ltd., as a mechanical & electrical contractor, located at 6
Thurston Street in Yarmouth, N.S.
For the next twenty two years he was the sole owner of the company.
Roy V. Germain Ltd. became well known and highly respected in
the construction industry, working on such projects as the Yarmouth
Regional Hospital, schools, industrial complexes, and so on.
In 1976, he sold the majority shares to William Carroll and Philip
Graves, keeping 20 % of the shares for himself. The company then
became known as Germain Mechanical & Electrical Ltd. As had
been the tradition, the company kept building and growing every
year, as it broke new ground.
As the company grew, it kept its reputation as a highly respected
entity throughout the construction industry.
In late 1979, Germain Mechanical & Electrical Ltd. purchased
W.B. Bailey Ltd, an 80 year old company specializing in heating,
plumbing, ventilation and air conditioning. By purchasing W.B.
Bailey Ltd., it gave Germain’s a decisive edge in the contracting
business. With these additions, Germain’s had the total
package under one roof, providing all the advantages other contractors
did not have.
With these additions, two new new shareholders came on board.
Roy Saulnier & Victor Saulnier each purchased 5 % of the company,
along with William Carroll & Phil Graves each owing 40 %,
with Roy Germain holding the remaining 10 %. These five individuals
were all directors of the company. W.B. Bailey Ltd. kept operating
under its name until 1989.
In 1989, W.B. Bailey Ltd.’s name was dropped, and became
known as Germain Mechanical & Electrical Ltd. Along with this
change, Philip Graves sold his shares.
The company now had seven shareholders. William Carroll, Charles
Jess, Roy Saulnier, Victor Saulnier, Peter Graves, Ronald Graves
and Roy Germain - holding 1 share. All these individuals became
directors of the company, along with Philip Graves.
In 1995, William Carroll decided to sell out. The company was restructured
and the following shareholders became equal partners. Roy Saulnier,
Victor Saulnier, Peter Graves, Ronald Graves, & Charles Jess,
who all became directors, along with Philip Graves and Roy Germain.
At the same time, Germain’s moved to 244 Water Street, along
with the former W.B. Bailey Ltd, previously located at 513 Water
Street. By moving, both sections of the company moved under one
roof, rendering it much more convenient and efficient to operate.
In 1998, Roy Germain & Charles Jess decided to step down,
bringing another change in the company. Brian Durkee became a
shareholder, along with Roy Saulnier, Victor Saulnier, Peter Graves,
& Ronald Graves. All became equal partners.
In 2002, Curt Goudey became a minority shareholder.
In 2003, Ronald & Peter Graves were bought out. As we start
a new fiscal year, the following persons became equal partners
- Roy Saulnier, Victor Saulnier, Brian Durkee, & Curt Goudey.
In 2006, Roy & Victor Saulnier decided to sell their shares in the company. As we started our fiscal year of 2007, the following persons became equal partners - Brian Durkee, Curt Goudey, Brian Hurlburt & Bruce Greene.
